"What Duncan brought to the hobby went beyond his many talents of storytelling, showholding, making exquisite miniatures and building Cascade models. Duncan knew that the greatest gift he had to give was himself, and he gave freely and with such joy. During the years that I knew him, he held his life as a party for close friends, with an invitiation for all to join him. I have no doubt that he's among loving friends now. A wiser friend reminds me that we grieve not for the dead but for those left behind, and so I do - for so many of us will sorely miss his hearty conversations, cheerful companionship, and the support of his unconditionalfriendship. "Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance." with love, |
"I have sat here all morning trying to come up with the words to express my graditude for Duncan Macpherson and all he has done for the hobby. Duncan knew no strangers and made everyone welcome with his wit and charm. But, alas, I am not a good with words - was so glad to see that Bonnie said so well what I was thinking! Duncan will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with Daphne at this time in her life." Cari Zisk |
"I'm so very sorry to hear about Duncan Macpherson's passing. While I only met him a couple times, those times remain in my mind as a reminder of the fun and wonderful people that make this hobby so wonderful. Not too long ago we were remembering about the early days of haynet and one thing I didn't think about was that that is how I met Duncan and Daphne. Duncan himself use to be on haynet (before it was called haynet) and you could always count on him for a laugh. He was full of puns and would always have one to make you groan! Oh the "pun"ishment! Any one remember when his puns got so bad someone decided there should be a "pun tax"? LOL! Every time he'd post a pun someone would tell him he"owed more tax". (of course we never made him pay. ;-) ) His friendliness and good humor didn't stop there. When I finally met him and Daphne at a live show I got to talk to him for awhile during some judging. Talking with him was one of the best parts of the show. In fact, I didn't realize some of the classes had finished and others had started! Also, I didn't really know anyone at the time and being the shy person I am just talking to someone I don't know isn't easy though with Duncan and Daphne I didn't feel quite like a stranger and talking with them came easily. To Daphne, our thoughts are with you and your family during this sad time. I' m sure I speak for others as well when I say Duncan will be missed but the "pun" and wonderful memories will remain." "My deepest condolences on your loss. Duncan was a magnificent man someone to look up to. I am touched by his sentiments towards me. I actually met him several years prior when Dave owned DaBar, but I really didn't get to know him until the '96 NWC you speak of. The man had more zest for life than any ten, and the wonderful thing is that he wanted to share that. It was impossible to feel depressed or cynical around him! I personally will miss him, but he was an example to me of how to live life fully, and as these lessons learned will always be with me, he will always be alive." Kim |
"I have been offline for a few days, and upon returning, was very saddened to hear that Duncan had passed away. Although I didn't know him all that well, I could tell from talking to him that he was a very special person. He seemed so excited that Michael was going to start making vehicles and was so eager to help, even though he'd never met us. He offered to be available via email for any questions Michael had. That type of extrordinary kindness is not all too common. He sent us a book, a large packet of plans, and some pictures of his beautiful work. We had the materials packed up and ready to return to you as we copied large portions of what we needed. If you feel that Duncan would like us to keep the books, Michael will try his best to make vehicles in the tradition of Duncan's-although that is no easy feat. I appreciate your giving the books to us. If at any time you change your mind please let me know.I will go ahead and send the photos of his work back to you. I will be happy to send you photos of Michael's completed work. It has been very slow going as he works full time as a jeweler, but he has almost finished four wheels. He is doing one of the simplest ones first. He could never have even started this at all without the help Duncan provided. I am posting to the haynet the special memory we have of Duncan's kindness. Please take care, Daphne, and know that you are in our thoughts and prayers." Jennifer Lee & Michael Chapman |
"My deepest condolences on your loss, Daphne. Duncan was the kindest man I ever met. I will miss his laughter most of all. The first time I ever met Duncan and you was at Jamboree in "93. Sarah had won a bunch of Hartland Lady Jewel and Jade unpainted bodies. Duncan, you, Laurie Jo and I wrapped Sarah up in TP and Jewel models and paraded her up and down the hallway. We were rolling on the floors laughing. I have only to think of that moment to hear Duncan's laughter fill my head. Such a wonderful gift. I feel honored to have met such a remarkable man. If there is ever anything I can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask." Ann Bilon |
